About Suzie Byrne

Suzie was born and raised in Melbourne’s bayside suburbs. She has always had a passion for art, encouraged by her creative Mum who rather conveniently also happened to be her primary school art teacher.

After completing a degree in Graphic Design she was employed in various design studios mainly as an illustrator, one of which dabbled in licensed characters, thus she has learnt to draw characters from the likes of Disney, Warner Brothers and Mattel’s Barbie. Embarking on a career in freelance illustration in 1994, her ability to illustrate in a variety of styles from realistic to cartoon have lead to commissions for clients such as Carter Holt & Harvey, Cadbury, Bakers Delight, Funtastic Ltd, and Australis to name a few. She has worked with many mainstream publishers including the likes of Penguin, Hinkler and Five Mile Press illustrating Childrens’ books and novel covers .

Suzie works extremely effectively with a strong coffee preferably Pantone 4705 in colour in a variety of mediums including watercolours, acrylics and digital.

Working from her home studio her dog Cyan tries to tempt her away from her desk with the strangely hypnotic game of ‘fetch’. Ultimately she aims to add 3 more dogs to her family and name them’ Magenta’, ‘Yellow’ and ‘Black’, thus completing the canine process colour set.
